Automation has developed an image processing based loop controller by means of which the rolling stack is allowed to form a loop between two stands. The size of the loop is controlled within set limits by adjusting speed, in the stand, following the feedback from the loop sensor. The loop sensor system for loop length measurement as well as for loop control has been developed based on machine vision technology.

A Loop control system based on this technology is sucessfully commissioned at Merchant Mill 2 of Tata Steel.
